Dubai, UAE. Emirates Airlines flight, never fails and always ending with a smile. Since we landed I coul see the city skylne, including the Burj Khalifa. I really got a strange feeling looking at that tower, very intelligently illuminated, with a height of more than twice than the rest of the skyscrapers!! It was a scary feeling but at the same time a feeling of endless admiration.
The airport is impressive, high thick aluminum columns everywhere, official personel with their traditional white wear, very classy. When I get to collect my visa, I had to take an eye scan, very modern! Then I got my backpack checked twice! I guess I had the look of a bad guy. But one of them searched eeeeverything! Every pocket in every pants, etc. So after that inevitable waste of time I head to the arrivals hall wondering how the heck I will to my hotel. Yes, hotel. I had to book one nght so they sponsor my visa and do all the necessary arrangements.
It was close to midnight and after half an hour of failures in takind either bus or metro, took the expensive taxi. (metro wasnt working and fir the bus I had to buy a card which they didnt sell it by that time). Finally my only night in a 'luxury' hotel room. (in Ibis Hotel, which is OK). I set my alarm to 10:30 am, because my host Mustaffa from CS was going to pick me up. So I woke up, take a good shower, cut my hair, bla bla bla and the I saw another watch and it was 6:30 am!! I forgot to change the time. So I went back to bed, couldnt sleep and went out walking to find a store a buy a gansito or something similar. I did and go back to the room, and I sleep for 2 more hours. It was kind of frustating because I was expecting that particular hotel sleep to be memorable, like totally perfect with at least 10 hours sleep, but no.
So Mustaffa picked me up in his jeep, and he is a really cool guy. He is from Malaysia l, he has a wife and two children there but he has veen working in Dubai for two years as a chocolatier, in Mars. He gets to see his family every three minhs and he gets kind of lonely sometimes, so I guess is good for him to host people.
So we head to buy my ticket for the Burj Khalifa observation deck (world tallest strucutre with 828 ms!!!). If you buy it in advance is 75% cheaper. Then we went to buy some groceries and head to his apartment, and it was really nice! His couch was very confortable too! That afternoon we went to the beach, which is very nice and with a lot of people. The water is really salty though. There I met Jorge, a mexican guy, CS friend of Mustaffa. He arrived in Dubai three weeks back and he was looking for a job, which eventually he got one at a restaurant.
So, me and Mustaffa went to visit some malaysian friends of him and have dinner at their place. They were really nice people, then we head to have some coffee in a Lebanese coffee shop. This guy lived in other emirate close to Dubai, in a 50 story building!
Every time we drive in Dubai I never couldnt take my eyes oof Burj Khalifa. It is really impressive!! I have no words for it. The next day I booked a desert safari. This is a package which includes being in a 4x4 toyota around the sand dunes, see the sunset in the desert, arrive to a village of the tour compajy where you get tea, snacks, BBQ, belly dancer show and camel riding, among other things. The sand dunes experience was the best! Its like a roller coaster, the drivers are really good and the like speed, forced turns, lifting sand eveywhere! I highly recommend it!! Here I met some girls with whom I stayed with the rest of the afternoon having a very relaxing time and enjoying everything. After that I went to the Marina and The Walk, which is a sidewalk in front of the beach where all the people go there at night to see and be seen. You see the arabs in their white wears, the arab women all in black covering their faces, except their eyes. They wear always delicious perfumes and you always get to wonder how their bodies are and it kind of makes it sexier, because they really know how to do their eyes make up! Also you get to see he more expensive and luxurious cars ever! and eveywhere! From ferrarris to aston martins, from lamboghinis to maseratis!
He next day I went to old Dubai, went to a heritage buildings a cool museum that explains the history of the city. Then I met with Jorge at the Burj Al Arab, world's only 7 star hotel! We made a reservation for later in the night and he took me to some shoppings nearby, including the mall where it has a ski ramp inside. Really crazy, but it works! hehe.. So after that I went to his appartment, change clothes, because the wear code is 'smart casual'. So we called Mustaffa and he picked us up at Jorges place and we head to he hotel. He reservation was in one of the bars and it included two drinks and a snack such as sushi.
So we arrived at he hotel and it is really breathtaking! The lobby is really luxury, with exotic colors and materials, two big aquariums, an elegant and funny water fountain and an incredible height in the lobby. (almost like all the builgin height, around 180 mts I guess. So then we headed to the bar, with some well done drinks and snacks. Once inside you can wonder in the public spaces and so we did that and more. We sneak to the spa area in the 26th floor, which it has a jacuzzi and a pool with incredible views of the city. We walked around the suites hallways, everything highly decorated with arab motives, and multicoloring everywhere. After that we really liked the experience of seeing how the 'other half' lives.
The next day I went to the Dubai Mall, world largest shopping mall! It is really big and it even has a big aquarium, so big that they have almost evey kind of fish, except whales. But they do have some sharcks and you can even dive inside and the people watches you. So I made my booking for the Burj Khalifa at 6:00 pm, good time to catch he sunset. And the entrance to it is in the Dubai Mall. It is really well organized and the elevator is he fastest in the world. 18 m/s.The observation deck is in the 124th floor ( there are around 160 or 180 floors in total) and we did it in less than a minute. The views are great and the feeling of being up there is better. I took some nice pictures and went down to see the Dubai Fountain show, which is like in Vegas but much better I guess. Really impressive!! With water going up to heights of 150 meters!
So after that I head 'home' and the next day Mustaffa took me to Abu Dhabi. We drive around town and then we stopped at Emirate's largest mausque. Its really new and impressive!! All in white in the outside, wih a huge square of 120x120 meters. The inaide is astouning. Very elegant, very big, very tall, very detailed! He went bsck to Dubai and stayed more time there cause lster I took my flight to Delhi, departing from Abu Dhabi.
